030 – Highschool BFFs

Nothing like a fresh question to wake me up in the morning.Let’s get to it! Mango Yoghurt: Are you still close with your friends from high school or earlier? Oh boy. Guess we're getting into some DAD LORE today! Buckle up! Actually, it’s not that interesting or complicated, if I’m being honest. Simple answer is... nah, not really.  I had some friends in school! I was just never... really friends with them, I’ve realised. That’s not too uncommon for school friends, I think. You’re friends out of convenience, brought together by nothing more than the location of your house. My situation was a little more difficult. While most of the kids in my class lived in the suburbs, usually within walking distance of each other... I grew up in the sticks. There was a bus, but it only passed by five times a day and the last bus home was at 7 pm. So... I couldn’t really hang out with people after school without a solid plan on how to get home. And asking my parents for a ride was only really an option for organised parties, not casual hangs.  In secondary school -that’s high school for you Americans- most of the friends I had moved to a different school, or a different major from my own. Since we didn’t have classes together anymore we started growing apart. And about a year after graduation I’d lost contact with every single one. Well... that’s not true. There’s one person still around. This guy! Say hello to my children! Daniel: Hello! We met in secondary school, but we didn’t really become good friends until after graduation. That was twenty years ago! We lived together for over a decade, I was the best man at his wedding... He’s like a brother to me!  Quality over quantity! That’s it for today, kiddos. I love you!
