010 – Indoor Activities

Y’know, no matter how old I get there’s nothing that beats a lazy Saturday morning with sugary cereal and cartoons. But parenthood never takes a break! To the emails! EverythingBurrito asks...'I have a question. I have two little boys, 2 and 4. Now that it’s getting cold out, what were some of your favorite indoor activities when you were little? Or any indoor fort building tips? Ours get jumped on and pulled down instantly.' Oh boy. I’m going to have to call in reinforcements for this one.  Hey, mama? You doing okay? Good. Listen, I got a question from a reader here that I’m not sure how to answer.Do you remember what I liked to do when I was real little? Yeah, two or three. Hm. Mhmm? Okay. Thanks mama. Love you. Well, she was absolutely no help. My childhood was pretty different. I grew up in the Swedish countryside in the late 80s. No siblings, just a whole load of pets. According to my mom, we didn’t spend a lot of time inside during winter. I’d be out playing in the snow or helping with the dogs. When I did spend time inside, I’d draw most of the time or play quietly by myself. Maybe I’d watch cartoons, but that wasn’t until I was a little older.  I was a really quiet and calm child in general, and with no siblings to rile me up I had an easy time entertaining myself. If we built a pillow fort, that fort stayed up! I can tell you this though - what I really loved as a kid was when my parents took time out of their day to do little projects with me. Baking saffron buns or gingerbread cookies for Christmas. Coloring together, or being read to. Planting seeds in a pot and watching them grow! Even being included in day to day tasks can mean a lot to a kid. I know I liked feeling like I was being helpful. Still do. I’m not sure how much help that was, but that’s what I got. They can’t all be winners! Love you, kiddo. Give my best to the grandkids!
