004 – Girlfriend pt 1

How to Get a Girlfriend: Part One. Hey kiddo, I’m glad you could come back. Take a seat, get yourself comfortable.  I, uh. It’s time we had The Talk.  likeanecho asked last episode on how to get a girlfriend and, uh. We’re gonna get to that.  But first off, we’re going to talk about your intentions.  Why do you want a girlfriend?  Now, really think about this one. It’ll be important later, trust me.  I know this can be difficult, so I’m gonna start us off. For me, having a partner means having someone to share my life with.  Someone I’m comfortable with, who likes spending time with me and sticks around even when things get tough.  Others need to be in a relationship because they can’t be alone with themselves, or maybe they think a girlfriend will make them look cool or mature or manly.  Maybe they have problems and think another person is the solution.  You see now why intention is important?  A romantic partner is a whole separate person, with their own needs, emotions and history.  Being with someone you trust and can talk to sure helps with all kinds of problems... but it’s not the solution.  I’ve seen friends and family fall into this pattern.  One relationship ends and they jump right into the next one, because it’s not really about the relationship.  There’s a bigger problem they’re avoiding, and as long as they try to fill that hole in their chest with another person, it’ll only get worse. Every time I saw someone do this, that relationship was over within a year or two.  Some of them got a baby to try and fix it, but that’s just a second person being stuffed in the hole.  So here’s what I want you to do: have a good, long think about why you want a partner.  Think about if you’re ready for what that means - you gotta be there for that person just as much as they’re there for you!  Maybe you got some stuff you need to work out first.  Maybe you realise that what you need is friends, or therapy, or both!  Maybe you’re scared to be different, because your friends got girlfriends.  Sit with it for awhile, feel your feelings. There’s no right or wrong answer here. Be honest with yourself. Set yourself up for success, if you do decide to get a girlfriend.  And if you just want to smooch, you don’t need a relationship for that!  I think that does it for this time. If you got any questions, or wanna tell me about your relationship experiences, let me know! I love hearing about that kind of stuff! See you next time. I love you kiddo.
