002 – Ant Milk

It's time for another round of Dadvice! How you doin' asks... 'When are you coming back with the milk' I'm sorry! I got lost at the store! There are so many milks these days and I didn't know which one you wanted so I got ALL OF THEM! On to your next question... Ella Smith writes... Hey dad, ants are coming in my kitchen. How do I caulk the baseboards? I got the stuff from the hardware store. Dad drinks milk, stressed Dad does an internet search for caulk and ants??? Alright! I think I've figured it out! Dadvice episode 2: Ant Milk First step! Make sure you got the right caulk! Silicon for wet spaces like the bathroom and kitchen, latex for the rest of the house! Step two: clean out existing caulk, vacuum carefully to get rid of dust and then wipe down the area with vinegar or bleach! It needs to be completely clean, or the seal could be compromised! Then apply painters tape above and below where you want the caulk. Prepare the caulk gun according to the instructions on the box Get some gloves on! You're going to need them in a minute! Apply the caulk! If you're nervous, you can do a couple of practice runs on a piece of paper to get a better idea of what's happening. Hold the caulk gun at a 45 degree angle. Fill the space you want to caulk. This is where the gloves come in. Before the bead of caulk dries, you can wet your finger and smooth it out. If you want a pro finish, you can run an ice cube along the edge! Remove the painters tape before the caulk dries, and you're done! Good job, kiddo! You just caulked your baseboards! And as a piece of bonus advice... there's no shame in not knowing how to do something. Being good at looking up stuff online is by far one of the most useful skills you can develop. That's all for this time, children! I'll see you next time for some prime DADVICE!
